Describing himself as a colorist, Dessner’s compositions are built up of thick passages of sumptuous tones, creating sensations ranging from intense movement to a transcendent calm. His life-size canvases directly address the viewer both optically and physically as his lush brushstrokes direct the eye across the canvas and into perceived depth.
